Our Approach

ApproachNacht & Lewis Architects has played an important role in shaping the skyline of Sacramento. The firm, established in 1922, has been practicing architecture for more than 80 years in Northern California. Nacht & Lewis has focused on the design of both private and public buildings, with an emphasis on government facilities. Our clients include Federal, state and county government agencies.

Today, Nacht & Lewis has a practice that balances both private and public sector design efforts. Our experience includes design-build of commercial and governmental facilities; a strong practice of educational facility design; a growing healthcare and senior living facility expertise; and our continued emphasis on justice and correctional projects.

Design at Nacht & Lewis is a team effort. We believe the resulting design for a project is derived from a process that includes sensitivity to the environment, an understanding of the site, a well thought-out program, and most importantly, participation by the client in the design process is crucial to a successful project. We believe the design process directs the formulation of the project.

Green Design

Sustainability is an emerging service at Nacht & Lewis Architects. We believe that the success and operability of the building should responsibly respond to the environment. We review the areas of building placement on the site, the energy and water usage, recycled and recyclability of materials, and the quality of the indoor air. We feel strongly that the long-term health of the occupants, the cost of building ownership, and a clean environment all relate to each other and lead to a successful project. Nacht & Lewis Architects is a member of the United States Green Building Council.

BIM & Technology

BIMFor over three years Nacht & Lewis has been partnering with collaborative teams using virtual design and construction methods. Our breakthrough opportunity, the DGS Central Plant Renovation, is an 80,000 s.f. design build project for the state of California. Using Autodesk Revit, Nacht & Lewis was able to model the architectural, structural and mechanical design, aligning mechanical efficiency with maintenance and usability early during the design development. Nacht & Lewis carried virtual technology through early construction by coordinating the design and subcontractor models using Autodesk Navisworks Manage.

Following the Central Plant project, Nacht & Lewis made a commitment to make BIM the production standard. Using virtual design technology for design documentation, multi-discipline coordination, visualization and analysis, Nacht & Lewis has the tools and experience to bring the collaborative design process to life.
